Background & Purpose of the Job

Raeford is the biggest Deodorant Sticks site of the world in Unilever, responsible for more than $ 1Bi turnover, 65% of the global deodorant sticks volumeand more than 120ktons of products produced per year, between deodorant sticks, shampoos, body washes, andhand dish washes. The Site Engineering Manager has a key role to play to deliver the engineering and capital project for the site successfully. The purpose of this job is to manage the end to end delivery of the site capital plans, managing engineers at the site as well as delivery of projects of significant size or a portfolio of smaller projects. Responsible for all aspects of the day to day management of projects including scope, cost and timeline definitions and management, communications and stakeholders’ management, procurement plans, quality, resources, construction safety and risk management, and overall project integration. Leads the EEM (Early Equipment Management) pillar with full integration with the Unilever Manufacturing System plans on site. Reports to theSite Director, with a dotted line to the Engineering Director.

Who You Are & What You’ll Do

You’re a born leader:Youprovide engineering leadership to project teams drawing resources from the local, regional and global organization as well as the global, category, peers and/ or 3PM teams. You serve as the Early Equipment Management pillar leader for the site a champion the BPC NA EEM Community across the factories. You lead the capital management process in the site, that can have an investment of 1020MM per year, driving capital efficiency, sweating the assets and execution excellence. You have strong passion for Engineering Excellence and people development to drive team’s performance. You strategically influence peers and stakeholders to drive the business agenda through technical solutions. You support the Site Director and Engineering Director in developing the site and NA BPC Engineering Strategy and developing cluster engineering capabilities.

You’re a dot connector:You work closely with the site team to build a robust site master plan, including process, pack, infrastructure and utilities to drive change, sustain and improve performance and customer service at manufacturing. Besides that, you work closely with the site team to improve operational performance of packing lines, process kits and utilities systems, in order to improve cost and delivery at the site and therefore the business and as well to avoid capital investments. You work cross-site as well, engaging and collaborating with the other engineering managers to improve capabilities in the engineering team, and you lead as well the BPC NA Capital Management across the four BPC sites, 3PMs and Moulds, driving capital delivery accuracy.

You’re a change maker:You flawlessly executes projects leading all engineering aspects of the working programme working with site, procurement, Suppliers, Planning, R&D, Safety, Quality, Legal and the engineering community in an integrated, high performance work team. You drive capital efficiency by constantly looking at ways to improve costs to implement projects and looking at alternative technical solutions, besides working together with the site to sweat the assets, finding ways to extend the operating life of equipment, improving efficiencies, lowering environmental footprint and lowering operating costs.

You love to win, and have fun doing it: You have strong technical expertise in total systems approach and high level of knowledge in Deodorants and Personal Care Liquids technology in all work efforts to deliver on time in full end to end capital projects, adhering to Unilever standards and ensuring safety as a value. You have the ability to balance a variety of priorities while maintaining healthy relationships across the engineering team, key stakeholders and customers.

What You’ll Need to Succeed


  • B.S. or B.E. degree in Engineering or equivalent education with demonstrated working experience

  • 5 - 10 years’ experience in related Project Engineering in FMCG/ related industry 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a people or project management role

  • Professional engineering skills, including disciplines such as mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, automation and civil construction design and deploy, including working knowledge on International Engineering Standards.

  • Project Management Leadership with strong Early Management expertise (EPM/ EEM)

  • Proficient in continuous improvement methodologies, with experience in implementing/ driving pillar results through continuous improvement methodology, especially Autonomous Maintenance, Professional Maintenance and Early Management

  • Firsthand experience/ track record of delivering and managing major projects(€ Multi Million) within Unilever or similar FMCG environment.

  • Working knowledge on Engineering software: AutoCAD, 3D’s Primavera, Agile, Microsoft Project.

  • Attained Professional Engineer Status (Or member of professional institution)

  • Attained Master Business Administration in Engineering Management or Supply Chain

  • Project Management Institute Certification (PMP® by PMI)

  • Knowledge and working experience in Deodorant Sticks and Personal Care Liquids, including batch process, sonolation, late variant addition, powders handling, filling, labelling, capping, end of line, hygiene, amongst others.
