Job Title: Ice Cream QA Inspector

Function: Supply Chain – Quality Assurance
Location: Minburi Factory

Role Summary

As part of the Quality Assurance team in the Ice Cream factory, the QA Inspector plays a critical role in ensuring product quality, food safety, hygiene, and consumer protection. The role is responsible for routine inspections throughout the production line, verifying that all operations comply with GMP, Unilever standards, and customer requirements. This includes supporting microbiological sampling, cleanliness checks, documentation, and quality training for factory staff.

Job Purpose

  • Define the responsibilities and scope of the QA Inspector in conducting product and hygiene inspections along the production line based on assigned plans.
  • Ensure employees clearly understand their roles in maintaining product quality, hygiene, and consumer safety.
  • Foster employee ownership and accountability in preventing quality and hygiene issues throughout the entire production process.
  • Promote understanding of GMP, HACCP, and Unilever’s hygiene and sanitation systems, including quality checkpoints, contamination control, and personal hygiene protocols.
  • Raise awareness of the impact of quality lapses on customers and the business.
  • Reinforce the importance of accuracy and consistency in quality inspections.
  • Support hygiene and sanitation efforts by collecting product samples for microbial testing and performing swab tests after equipment cleaning.
  • Conduct basic training for production staff on hygiene, quality, and consumer safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute inspection plans and collaborate with supervisors to ensure alignment with quality objectives.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of quality inspection equipment and the working area; report any damage or losses.
  • Verify production processes and daily quality monitoring to ensure adherence to defined standards (e.g. colour, taste, shape).
  • Immediately report non-conforming products to shift leaders and machine operators, and label non-compliant goods to prevent release.
  • If non-conformance is found in warehouse or cold store, notify relevant teams and label all affected batches.
  • Investigate defective raw materials or packaging that cause quality issues and escalate to Quality Manager.
  • Collect additional samples for revalidation when quality defects are detected and calculate rejection rate.
  • Monitor corrective actions and ensure affected batches are blocked from distribution.
  • Observe changes in packaging or arrangements and ensure alignment with defined specifications.
  • Record and report quality incidents to supervisors and Quality Manager.
  • Collect and send retain samples for lab testing as scheduled and follow up on results.
  • Provide hygiene and quality training to operators and act as a hygiene role model.
  • Record inspection results and follow up in SAP system.
  • Release finished goods in SAP only after meeting all inspection criteria.
  • For new products or those under testing, follow retain sampling and test per GMP/FSSC 22000 (e.g., scent, colour, microbiological, chemical, physical attributes).
  • Strictly follow Unilever quality protocols and documentation practices.
  • Inspect production steps with focus on critical control points (CCPs) to prevent process deviation.
  • Coordinate with team leads to track quality of new or export products and gather insights for future improvements.
  • For export goods, validate container loading process against customer standards.
  • Prepare weekly quality summaries and COA (Certificate of Analysis) for export items.
  • Conduct daily observation checks in production or storage areas to ensure hygiene and safety standards are consistently maintained.

Technical & Functional Skills

  • GMP, HACCP, and Food Safety compliance
  • Experience with SAP system for quality release and tracking
  • Proficiency in sample collection, retain management, swab testing
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to train others and drive quality ownership on the line
  • Familiarity with FSSC 22000, CRQS, and export documentation (COA)
