Where this position fits-into the team:
You will support Unilever’s Supply Chain, Global Business Services and Digital & Technology functions, with a focus in North America and Latin America, and primarily related to the Beauty & Wellbeing (“B&W”) business, and you will also support various global Supply Chaintransformation projects and initiatives.
Your work will be supervised byGeneral Counsel, North America Supply Chain and B&W Global Product Supply, supporting supply chain, procurement, business services and digital and technology matters.
Integral part of the Unilever’s Legal Function – a global operation consisting of approximately 400 lawyers and specialists.
You will be a pioneer on the deployment and use of AI enabled tools to bring new efficiencies and insights to our legal work and advice we give our business partners.
Critical to your success in this role will be yourability to collaborate with legal team colleagues and business partners, responsiveness, a can-do attitude and eagerness to learn about the business.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Partner directly with supply chain, business services and procurement teams on complex commercial contracts, including procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, finished products, transportation services, capex equipment purchases and projects, fulfillment logistics services, quality and service level agreements and other supply chain and business services matters.
Support regional and global supply chain related matters, including transformation projects as well as compliance, risk management and governance initiatives.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (including Competition Law, Intellectual Property, Litigation, Business Integrity, etc.) as needed to support your work.
Managework of junior colleagues in the extended Supply Chain Legal team supporting matters within your remit and manage budgetfor external law firms supporting Supply Chain Legal matters.
Counsel oncontractual inquiriesand potential compensation claims in the event of non-compliances (current terms, termination rights, modification of terms, party obligations, remedies, etc.).
Day-to-day business counseling of stakeholders.
Communicate and collaborate regularly and effectively with the legal team and business partners to anticipate and solve problems before they occur.
Required Skills and Experience:
Qualified lawyer with at least10years of post-law degree experience, including deep experience in negotiation and drafting of complex commercial contracts in English.
Proficient in English with ability to fluently and organically communicate (in English).
Experience with negotiating U.S. contracts for U.S. clients.
Understanding of the U.S. legal system.
Knowledge of and ability to issue spot complex legal issues including contractual terms that raise resilience, financial or value leakage risks.
Pre-litigation dispute resolution experience (e.g. managing claims for compensation for contract breaches and/or advising on contractual rights and obligations).
Experience with managing high volume work and multiple stakeholders.
Strong business acumen and collaborative mindset with both legal colleagues and business partners/clients.
Flexibility, maturity, self-confidence, and enthusiasm with strong interpersonal skills
Great communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail, speed and accuracy
Ability to understand and adapt to the work culture and standard communication style within US based teams.
Willingness and drive for problem solving and process excellence, and for adopting new legal technologies to drive efficiencies.
Ability to prioritize and switch between multiple tasks, to work with colleagues and internal clients across multiple time zones and to possess strong cross-cultural skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
ProficientinMicrosoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; experience in using AI technology tools a plus.
