JOB PURPOSE:
We are looking for a food enthusiast who will be responsible for developing and executing the Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) and Sensory Evaluation program for the North American Ice Cream Team. This position will involve leveraging global and regional market and product insights, as well as combining them with science/technology facts, to drive the delivery of superior innovations, products, packaging and claims. This will involve working closely with your cross functional teams to deliver the brand’s program and business objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support CTI activities for NA Research Design & Innovation (RD&I) projects, working across US partners in Marketing, CMI and RD&I, to guide them with the insights and strategic understanding needed to drive superior products and new growth opportunities. The person in this role will be responsible to:
• Develop and execute a regional consumer technical test plan including technical, sensory or consumer product and packaging testing to identify targets for designing superior products and evaluation of their delivery.
• Define or contribute to the research proposals for innovation, strategic or competitor benchmarking studies, to ensure relevant key attributes are at the heart of design and evaluation.
• Analyze consumer and sensory data to draw out big consumer insights and distill out key measures for driving better product design and evaluation including team tastings.
• Implement CTI consumer and sensory testing best practices, techniques and processes.
• Support claims strategy through conduct of claims workshops and claims support testing. Craft compelling knowledge-based selling (KBS) narratives by identifying the most effective ways to showcase and elevate product superiority in alignment with brand strategy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
• Keep the consumer at the core of every initiative, ensuring their needs and perspectives guide the product development process.
• Display curiosity and enthusiasm for food and emerging consumer trends.
• Partner closely with brand marketing, Consumer & Market Insight (CMI) and the development team to define outstanding, compelling claims.
• Manage or support execution of relevant consumer, sensory or claims testing; interpret results, identify key insights, and efficiently cascade key findings/learnings.
• Create exciting technical communications, visuals, and demos that bring technologies and innovations to life. Co-create KBS (knowledge-based selling) demos for sales team and other activation tools.
• Understand the needs and attitudes of consumers and customers we serve, to connect them with relevance and brand tone-of-voice in all aspects of claims.
• Write research study briefs and execute studies; work closely with internal functions and external third parties to ensure successful research execution.

EXPERIENCES & QUALIFICATIONS
• Must have at minimum a BS in psychology, nutrition, food science, sensory science, physical science, marketing/market research, or related scientific discipline.
• Minimum 3 years in Consumer Insights, Sensory Science with experience in conducting sensory research and qualitative and quantitative research
• Experience within a category R&D function, Knowledge of the category or other foods-based business, CTI functional experience
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written) to bring consumer/sensory insights to life for multi-functional audiences in a clear and engaging way.
• Strong planning skills and attention to detail in execution of CTI research.
• Ability to identify the needs of technical projects and create insight programs to deliver them.
• Application of psychological principles to define consumer insight research activities.
• Have statistical knowledge and ability to interpret data, with modelling/advanced stats expertise an advantage.
• Analytical thinking with an ability to identify patterns within data.
• Creative thinking to support the development of new ideas and how to showcase product superiority.

Pay: The pay range for this position is $69,360 to $104,040. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.

Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.

As publicly announced, Unilever will separate its Ice Cream business which is expected by the end of 2025. This role will transfer to the new Ice Cream company.
