Job Title: Global Amazon Packaging Lead

Work Level: 1C

Location: Kingston

JOB BACKGROUND

As digital commerce (dCom) continues its dominance as the consumer shopping destination and influence point, we want Unilever brands to be at the forefront of consumers’ consideration. Unilever’s ambition is to Turbocharge our sales through dCom. To be fit to win, we must continually adapt and upskill our organization’s dCom Supply Chain expertise across our different strategic business groups, markets, and key customers. Amazon is driving our dCom growth, currently Unilever’s 2nd largest customer globally, and is expected to become our #1 Customer by 2030.

JOB PURPOSE

The key purpose of this role is to lead Unilever’s global packaging strategy for Amazon, ensuring all products meet ISTA 6A and other eCommerce compliance requirements. The role will establish the frameworks, tools, and capabilities needed to embed eCommerce packaging into innovation and supply chain operations worldwide.

As the Amazon Packaging Lead, you will act as the global subject matter expert, partnering across R&D, Supply Chain, Brand, and Customer Development teams to drive adoption, build knowledge, and ensure compliance is delivered consistently across markets.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead global packaging compliance strategy for Amazon, ensuring Unilever meets ISTA 6A, SIOC, FFP, PFP and other evolving requirements.

  • Deep dive into Amazon chargeback data related to packaging failures, conducting root cause analysis to identify failure drivers and implement corrective actions.

  • Set up governance and frameworks to embed eCommerce packaging needs into innovation and renovation projects from the start.

  • Run global capability building workshops to train R&D, SC, and brand teams on packaging standards and compliance.

  • Develop and deploy global toolkits, processes, and best practices that can be localized by markets.

  • Partner cross-functionally with R&D packaging, marketing, and SC to ensure packaging is designed for eCommerce while balancing sustainability, cost, and consumer preferences.

  • Monitor regulatory and customer-led changes in eCommerce packaging requirements and proactively adapt Unilever’s approach.

  • Support new innovations to pass Amazon’s packaging certification processes efficiently.

  • Build a strong community of practice across global and local packaging teams, sharing learnings and driving continuous improvement.

  • Represent Unilever externally with Amazon on packaging-related technical topics, acting as the primary expert interface.

  • Charge backs from Amazon are currently $4.2m globally and set to rise to $10.7m by 2028 (this directly hits Unilever's bottom line profitability)

  • This role will focus on reducing these charges through driving change in our packaging design.

  • The role will involve rolling out learnings from the US to the rest of the world, so critical we have somebody with experience of that.

ALL ABOUT YOU

We are looking for a candidate who is both strategic and hands-on, with deep packaging expertise and the ability to embed change across a complex global organization.

Key skills and experience will include:

  • Proven packaging expertise, ideally with experience in eCommerce packaging and ISTA 6A or similar testing requirements.

  • Strong project management skills, able to design frameworks and drive implementation across multiple functions and geographies.

  • Excellent facilitation and training skills, able to lead workshops and build capability in others.

  • Experience in global stakeholder management, with the ability to influence across Supply Chain, R&D, Marketing, and Customer Development.

  • Change leadership mindset, able to create new ways of working and embed them sustainably.

  • Curiosity and tech-savviness to stay ahead of emerging packaging technologies and Amazon requirements.

  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to analyze complex datasets, extract insights, and translate findings into actionable packaging improvements.

  • High attention to detail, structured working style, and the ability to manage complex programs.

  • A collaborative approach, bringing people together to solve challenges, while holding teams accountable for delivery.

  • A passion for sustainable, consumer-centric packaging solutions that also meet business and customer needs.

Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money. In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.

What can I do?

If you become aware of potential recruitment fraud, spot fake Unilever recruitment adverts or fake LinkedIn profiles, report them via Una Live Chat.

Unilever does not accept responsibility or liability for any candidates who are financially impacted by recruitment fraud. Your vigilance is key!
