Job Title: Tax Technology Manager

Location: European preferred, but open to all UL locations


JOB PURPOSE

As part of Unilever’s global tax team, the Tax Technology Manager is responsible for executing the Global tax Technology Strategy across all areas of Taxation. Working with the Global Tax Technology Lead, the Tax Technology Manager will assist Tax Experts and Tax Business Partners execute their technology objectives in line with the Strategy and will work with stakeholders across the Unilever business to increase efficiency in operational tax delivery through more effective management of data and processes.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Activities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting the Global Tax Technology Lead in the running of the Global Tax Tech Working Group, which is a forum for initiating, governing, coordinating, communicating and measuring the effectiveness of tax tech initiatives across all global tax markets and expert groups;
  • Assisting Global Tax and Tax Operations stakeholders in the mapping of non or sub optimally automated processes and assisting in the development of business cases for implementing new tax technologies and improving data quality
  • Working with the ComEx It Teams responsible for (1) ERP systems and (b) specific tax technologies to ensure that all platforms and processes are maximized for tax purposes.
  • Working with all the relevant UL teams to effectively manage Tax data, both at master data and transactional data level to improve the efficiency of existing tax processes and to maximise the potential for further automation.
  • Supporting the Technology & Data workstream in Future of Tax across all taxes e.g. Indirect Taxes (e.g. GVRT), Customs duties (SAP GTS or similar), Operational Transfer Pricing, etc.
  • Keeping up to date with developments and innovations in the Tax Technology Market, including by networking with industry peers and establishing relationships with external suppliers and consultants.
  • Co-ordinating Digital Tax Training agenda

SKILLS YOU SHOULD HAVE

  • Strong critical thinking, decision-making skills, and project management abilities.
  • Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate tax principles and accounting issues in a simple, concise manner for various stakeholders.
  • Ability to gather and understand Business Requirements across all areas of Taxation and communicate the same to technology providers and implementation partners.
  • Proactive mindset, eager to take the initiative and capable to work independently.
  • Fluency in English, both verbally and in writing.

EXPERIENCE DESIRABLE FOR THE ROLE

  • Relevant years of hands-on Tax Technology operational experience in a Big 4/ MNC environment.
  • A solid understanding of the principles of Tax template design in SAP/S4 Hana and Oracle NetSuite,
  • A working understanding of data analytics tools and workflow tools, particularly Alteryx and PowerBI
  • Education to degree level, qualifications in accounting, taxation, computer science or related field would be advantageous.

Location

In September 2020, Unilever announced the intention to build a new sustainable campus site in Kingston, London to house the employees who currently work in 100 Victoria Embankment in Blackfriars, Lever House in Kingston and Graze in Richmond. Recruitment Fraud

Cyber criminals advertise fake job adverts with prestigious employers as a way of stealing information or even defrauding individuals out of money.In the most sophisticated cases, they will set up fake websites, which have a similar address to companies like Unilever. They even conduct fake telephone interviews and then offer candidates a role with the proviso they pay a fee for background checks or to cover work visa costs. These types of attacks are becoming more common as more people are looking for employment in the economic climate.

How is Unilever tackling this?

Many of Unilever’s recruitment sites publish a warning to candidates about recruitment fraud. The Cyber Security team also proactively scan for signs of people setting up fake Unilever sites and act to close them down.
