We have established four Legal Powerhouses in Bangalore, Mexico City, São Paulo and Barcelona, which form an integral part of the Legal Function and provide defined, structured services to our other lawyers and to the wider business.
Where this position fits-into the team:
- Part of the Global Data Privacy Central Team
- Part of the Unilever Legal Powerhouse – a team we’re currently building, which consists of around 25 colleagues in Barcelona
- Integral part of the Unilever’s Legal Function - a global operation consisting of approximately 500 lawyers and specialists
Key Responsibilities
- Providing pragmatic advisory services to our Business Groups, Business Units, and functions, enabling them to embed privacy operations and accountability frameworks that drive informed decision-making and long-term value
- Leading the Privacy Risk Assessment (PRA) and related AI-specific risk assessments process by offering actionable insights and designing auditable reporting mechanisms for high-risk data processing and AI activities, fortifying the business's accountability and resiliency.
- Acting as an advisor on global incident response processes, working closely with cyber security teams to develop proactive strategies for risk mitigation and swift resolution of privacy breaches
- Acting as an advisor on privacy and AI contractual safeguards
- Contributing towards the development and implementation of dynamic training and communication programs tailored to enhance privacy and AI awareness and strategic thinking across acquired businesses, business groups, and employees.
- Delivering legal guidance on global privacy and AI regulations, focusing on how businesses can anticipate and navigate evolving standards across jurisdictions while maintaining competitive advantage
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate privacy and AI as a strategic asset, establishing robust accountability models, and fostering a culture of innovation and compliance
- Providing forward-looking solutions to address the challenges posed by emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence, aligning strategic objectives with regulatory requirements and global trends in data privacy.
- Participating in or leading ethics review boards

Qualifications & Experience
- Legally qualified, with experience in the field of data protection and privacy and proven experience of successfully influencing senior business leaders
- Privacy experience derived from within a multi-national global organisation or law firm (indicatively 3-5 years PQE)
- Experience in large scale privacy transformation projects, preferably in the legal, compliance or risk sector
- Experience in working with offshore teams virtually, with proven ability in delivering change projects from initiation to business handover
- Excellent written and oral communication and advocacy skills, with demonstrable experience of prioritising effectively and managing diverse and multiple requirements
- Commercially aware specialist, capable of applying regulatory principles and frameworks to complex commercial and operational arrangements
- Experience and an understanding of global regulatory pressures
- Experience with setting up or advising on Privacy Risk Assessment processes in a global company (e.g. One Trust or similar)
- You have experiencing designing and implementing privacy training
- You have capability to adapt to changing priorities in line with the business and organisational needs in the ever-evolving data and digital landscape, identifying competition issues that intersect with data privacy regulation
- You are fluent in Generative AI concepts and prompt engineering
- You are familiar with AI productivity tools and their implications for data handling.
- You are proactive, highly collaborative and respond positively to change and new ideas. You tackle matters with curiosity and eagerness, and you are motivated to invest your energy in helping others to reach their own level of understanding of privacy matters with you
Preferable
- US and EU IAPP certification as a data protection professional - preferred
- Working towards or achieved new AI Governance Profession IAPP certification – preferred
