Job Purpose
The role of a Maintenance Engineer professional is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation of an organization's assets. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability and continuous improvement of factory equipment and assets. As the PM (Professional Maintenance) Pillar Co-Leader under the Unilever Manufacturing System (UMS) methodology, this role drives the implementation of Professional Maintenance strategies, develops autonomous maintenance capabilities, and leads cross-functional teams to eliminate equipment losses and breakdowns.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Planning & Execution
- Work with site planners to ensure short and long-term plan of maintenance activities to minimize downtime. Coordinate the required downtime with the operations team to ensure downtimes are incorporated in the production plan.
- Organization of the work orders execution, ensuring alignment among production, planners and front-line managers of respective areas on the prioritization and execution of the plan.
- Assisting in the development and management of the maintenance budget by forecasting costs for maintenance activities and providing technical inputs to build the spare parts inventory plan.
- Support spare parts inventory analysis and actions with respective teams (procurement, storekeeper, Maintenance experts) to ensure spare part strategy for the site.
- Responsible for the asset health assessment and criticality analysis for the plant and build strategy for replacement.
- Control the maintenance activities during planned maintenance or overhauls.
- Analyzing maintenance data to identify trends and areas for improvement in maintenance strategies and equipment performance.
Equipment Reliability & Preventive Maintenance
- Ensure execution of condition-based inspections and reliability measurements (examples: vibration, oil analysis, lubrication plan, thermography, etc.)
- Support the execution of actions from EWO related to improving or creating PM program.
- Coordinate the activities for running failure mode and effect analysis for critical assets and revise respective maintenance planning per the output of the analysis (Condition based monitoring or Predictive based monitoring).
- Management of Change approver for new parts and standard maintenance procedures (SMPs)
- Monitor and report that proper documentation of maintenance activities are being done by planners in the CMMS system.
- Ownership of CMMS system
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Lead risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for critical equipment.
Responsible for keeping track of all safety and legal inspections required for the - critical assets.
Continuous Improvement & Loss Elimination
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). The maintenance engineer will input on the analysis of key losses with the expertise on techniques that can be utilized to improve reliability.
- Support Autonomous Maintenance (AM) teams with training and technical guidance.
Professional Maintenance (PM) Pillar Co-Leadership
- Co-Lead the deployment of the PM Pillar across the factory, aligned with UMS methodology.
- Develop and maintain PM Master Plans, including equipment classification, criticality analysis, and maintenance standards.
- Facilitate PM audits and track progress against UMS milestones.
- Train and coach teams on PM tools (e.g., FMEA, MTBF/MTTR analysis, Lubrication Standards, Maintenance Prevention).
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) Measures equipment reliability and effectiveness of PM strategies.
- MTTR (Mean Time To Repair) Tracks efficiency of maintenance response and repair processes.
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) Evaluates equipment performance, availability, and quality output.
- Breakdown and Frequency Monitors number of unplanned equipment failures.
- PM Compliance Rate Percentage of scheduled PM tasks completed on time.
- Number of RCA/Kaizen Events Completed Measures proactive problem-solving and continuous improvement.
- Budget Accuracy Measures the difference between planned cost and actual incurred cost
- CMMS adoption % of hours worked recorded in CMMS or related KPIs
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical, Industrial Engineering or other STEM related field.
- 3+ years of experience in maintenance engineering within a manufacturing environment.
- Experienced with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing principles.
- Excellent analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in Reliability Engineering or Maintenance Management is a plus.
- Proficiency in CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- 5+ years of engineering experience within an FMCG/CPG manufacturing facility supporting continuous improvement or equipment reliability initiatives.
Pay: The pay range for this position is $86,080 to $129,120. Unilever takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are utilized in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, qualifications and education, and other business and organizational needs.
Bonus: This position is bonus eligible.
Long-Term Incentive (LTI): This position is LTI eligible.
